A More Concentrated School
Up to about 2013 the schools were large in numbers, but after the Marikana Massacre and the ACC, Khanya’s Strategic Perspectives has highlighted the need to purposefully provide more time and attention to focus on participants, and to focus on theory, analysis and praxis. The school was reduced in numbers and There has also been a purposeful focus on ensuring the participation of youth and women. The 2016 explored the theme of Youth Rising.
Since Marikana and Khanya’s ACC considered analysis, Strategic Perspectives for Movement Building in 2014, that there is a need for a new cycle of struggle, to rebuild the social justice movements and rebuild a new cadre. , there has been a renewed focus on the youth, with the theme of Youth Rising in 2016.
After the Marikana Massacre, and the ACC Khanya decided on the need for a smaller school of activists, to enable a more dedicated focus on theory and praxis. The JBF no longer took place immediately after the school, and is now held in October. Already in 2009, Khanya had formed the JBF, to respond the impact of neoliberalism on the working class, and the poor reading and writing culture in all SA’s languages.
